The aim was to design and fabricate a spoon.
I'm a Harry Potter fan and wanted to create a spoon that is whimsical and elegant. I liked the idea of a wooden wand sticking out of a pot.
I decided on using cherry as my material because it burns easily, which makes it ideal for pyrography or wood burning. Cherry can also be referred to as "Prunus" in agriculture, as well as the Harry Potter books.
Rendered Sketches.
The first two are iterations of wands in the Harry Potter movies. This is Dumbledore's "Elder Wand".

This is a spoon version of George's Weasley wand.

This final spoon design is an original render that plays along with the same wizard theme but isn't something that was in the real world yet, so I was more inclined to make this one.

Process Photos.
I mapped out the lines and measurement and my sketch and adhered it to the wood to have a template of where I needed to carve.
I also did a rough cut with the band saw to make carving less time-consuming. Cherry is one of the easier hardwoods to carve (hardwood refers to the species of tree, not the difficulty to manipulate it).
Here I developed my spoon bowl and handle while starting to map out the twist of the carving.
It was not what I expected, and I made mistakes :( I had to adapt the further along I went, and learned a plethora in the process.
This is the "Prunus" 90% complete. There are some alterations from the original design, but it couldn't of turned out better, and I gained some great experience carving my first spoon using only hand tools.
All that was left was to draw out my lines in preparation for wood burning the handle design.
